Year 10
By the time pupils finish year 10 they will have covered almost all the course content for the GCSE; year 11 is mainly focused on revision. As such, there is a huge advantage to be gained by year 10 pupils consolidating their understanding as they go along using effective revision techniques.
It is essential that when pupils are revising for maths the overwhelming majority of their time is spent actually doing maths questions. It is also essential that they check they are answering the questions correctly and that they re-do any that are wrong. Highlighting notes is not an effective revision strategy for maths and flashcards are useful only to learn key definitions (such as what a prime number is) or formulae that are not provided on the formulae sheets.
All pupils in key stage four at Brayton have a purple revision folder for maths. Pupils should place revision grids that they are given ahead of each assessment into their purple folders. This allows pupils to see what content they have already covered and focus their revision accordingly. These revision grids contain example questions so pupils can self-assess what topics they need to revise. Teachers will set "purple folder work" as homework at various points throughout the year, but pupils are encouraged to use them as much as possible for independent revision as well.
We recommend the websites Corbett Maths and Maths Genie as good sources of questions for revision. Both of these websites are free to use and do not require a log in.
If pupils are looking to source their own past papers to revise from, the Maths Genie website has a large number available, along with mark schemes and videos that walk through how to complete each question.
Maths teachers will always be happy to go over any additional work pupils have done with them, to resolve any questions that they may have.
The higher and foundation Sparx maths checklists need to be uploaded to the year 10 page as well as the year 11 please, as they are relevant for both year groups. As are the same websites I've listed for the year 11 page:
