Rugby and Netball Tour

As part of the Netball and Rugby Academy the students take part in fixtures and tournaments throughout the year. This academic year we will be running our first ever academy sports tour. This will give the students the opportunity to showcase their talent as well as take part in a fun weekend to reward their efforts throughout the year.  The tour will take place at the beautiful Condover Hall lasting a duration of 3 days and 2 nights, with a very exciting itinerary:

Day 1 - Students will take part in a variety of fun team building activities when the first arrive. They will then head to the courts or field to play in their fixtures against local schools. On the evening students will enjoy dinner and some evening entertainment before heading to bed.

Day 2 -Students will enjoy breakfast as a team before spending full day enjoying the facilities Condover Hall have to offer. They will take part in a morning training session before heading over to the pool to relax. After lunch the students will take part in another fun activity. To finish the day they will take part in some evening entertainment.

Day 3 - Students will enjoy breakfast before checking out and heading to Alton Towers for the day. After this students will head back home.

The tour will give students the chance to compete in fixtures against local teams but also bond with their team mates by taking part in different activities throughout the week.

Netball and Rugby Academy Tour 28th to 30th March at Condover Hall.

Sports Leaders

The Brayton Academy Sports Leader Award is a bespoke award that aims to provide the students of Year 8 and 9 with the opportunity to develop their leadership skills in a sporting background. The programme itself is a fun, engaging and active programme that will allow the students to experience the different roles that are involved in sport both on and off the field. The Rugby and Netball academy have made a great start to the Sports Leader Programme with many of them showcasing fantastic leadership skills. They have begun delivering sessions to each other and the Year 9 academy students hosted their first-ever sports leaders' event. This consisted of the students delivering their own games/drills which they had created to a group of primary school children, which was a huge success.

Rugby & Netball Academy

The Netball and Rugby Academy is part of the applied resilience aspect of Brayton Academy. Students are often selected to be a part of the academy based on their sporting talent and dedication. We look to build on students' skills over time and apply these into game situations, where students will then compete in fixtures against other schools to showcase their talent. We have high expectations of students within the Netball and Rugby Academy and encourage them to behave in a manner that is respected by others in the academy. This in turn will also have a positive effect on their confidence and resilience which will also have a greater impact on their wider academy life.

A usual session within the academy will consist of students taking part in some of the leadership programme period 4, looking at ways they can develop. During period 5 they will then put this into practice leading their own Netball/Rugby sessions. This allows students to both practice their sport specific skills as well as gain confidence in leading groups of people. Period 6 is then spent focusing on a sport specific skill and applying this to a game situation. Students are expected to attend one after school training session a week to embed these skills further and prepare for fixtures.
